Spectators

Admission

• All admission tickets are purchased at the gate. No advance ticket purchases are available.
  
  
• All money collected on behalf of this reenactment is considered a donation and is not refundable. Thank you for your understanding.
  

Parking

• Spectator parking will be available. Follow the event signs to Spectator Parking.
  
  
• Handicapped parking will be available next to the battlefield site.
  
  
• Shuttle service will be provided from Spectator Parking to the battlefield site.
  

General

• The event is open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  
  
• Camps open to the public at 9:00 a.m. Camps are closed during the battles.
  
  
• Battles begin at 2:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
  
  
• Resaca is generally hot in May, so visitors may want to dress in warm weather clothing and bring sun screen and water bottles.
  
  
• You may also want to bring lawn chairs or portable stadium chairs.
  
  
• Please keep in mind that the original battlefield terrain may be difficult for some to traverse.
  

Food

• Food vendors will be located on-site next to the Sutler area.
  
  
• Food items will be dependent on the vendors present but usually include hamburgers, hotdogs, BBQ, etc.
  
  
• Soft drinks and bottled water are usually available for sale.

Inclement Weather

• The event will be held rain or shine! The battles may be delayed while lightning is in the area, but the battles will begin as soon as possible.
  
  
• The Gordon County Antique Tractor Club will provide free transportation from the spectator parking area to the battle site each day and will be available after the battle to assist stranded motorists in case of rain.
  

Photography, Audio, & Video

• Hand-held or stationary photography, audio, and video recording are permitted and encouraged.
  
  
• Drones are not permitted.
  

Local Attractions

• Resaca Battlefield Historic Site - Located just off of I-75 at Exit 320. This brand new park contains a walking trail and interpretive signs that span over 700 acres of Confederate earthworks. The park officially opened on May 13, 2016.
  
  
• Fort Wayne Civil War Historic Site - Located just several hundred yards east of downtown Resaca. This fort was used by Confederate forces to guard the bridge across the Oostanaula River during the Battle of Resaca. After the battle it was occupied by Federal troops until 1868. The fort contains walking trails and interpretive signs and over 65 acres of property. Still visible are the original Confederate and later Federal earthworks and artillery redoubt. See the monument to the only Confederate company recruited from Resaca.
  
  
• Resaca Confederate Cemetery - Located adjacent to the reenactment site. This is one of two oldest Confederate cemeteries in the United States. This cemetery contains over 400 Confederate dead who were relocated there from all over the Resaca battlefield by the act of one local woman, Miss Mary Green.

Did You Know...

• There were more troops engaged in combat at the Battle of Resaca than at any other battle of the Atlanta Campaign - including the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain and all of the Battles for Atlanta.
  
  
• The reenactment site includes over 650 acres of the original battlefield and saw some of the heaviest fighting of the battle.
  
  
• The railroad that runs through the reenactment site is the original 1864 Western and Atlantic Railroad line that was fought over during the battle.
  
  
• At the reenactment site, Union forces captured a Confederate artillery battery and Confederate forces captured a Union artillery battery.
  
  
• Two Congressional Medals of Honor were awarded for actions that took place at the reenactment site.
  
  
• The Union general who composed the bugle call Taps, Gen. Daniel Butterfield, commanded troops at the reenactment site.
  
  
• Confederate General John Bell Hood's headquarters during the battle is located at the reenactment site.
  
  
• More Confederate dead lay along the road through the reenactment site than anywhere else on the battlefield.
  
  
• The Resaca Confederate Cemetery ties with one other cemetery for being the very first Confederate cemetery in the nation.
  
  
• Horse bones can still be found on the reenactment site.
  
  
• The only Confederate company recruited from Resaca did not take part in the Battle of Resaca. They served in the Army of Northern Virginia under the command of Gen. Robert E. Lee. A monument was erected to them at the Fort Wayne Civil War Historic Site.
  
  
• The reenactment site was used by the National Park Service for the filming of the new visitor center film at the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.
  
  
• Construction of Interstate 75 at Resaca cut the Federal and Confederate earthworks in half.
  
  
• Three monuments have been erected on the Resaca battlefield, which honor the 103rd Ohio Infantry, the 123rd New York Infantry and the 28th Georgia Infantry.
  
  
• Money donated by Ted Turner Pictures for the use of the reenactors in the motion picture Gods and Generals was used to help purchase the land for the Fort Wayne Civil War Historic Site.
  
  
• A portion of the proceeds from the battle reenactment each year goes to local battlefield preservation efforts. The rest funds the reenactment for the next year. The event staff are all volunteers.
